Flat Racing 2007 Season - Europe Longchamp, Sunday 29th April 2007
Prix Vanteaux, 80000€, 3yo, Females, 1850m (1m 1f 50yds) With a small stature but a big heart Just Little (E.A.Gann, J-C.Rouget) beat off stable-mate Elva (C.Soumillon, J-C.Rouget). The winner was reminiscent of Diminuendo from more than a decade ago in her method of racing and looks like she could turn into a top class filly this year.
Prix Ganay, 300000€, 4yo+, 2100m (1m 2f 100yds) The first Group 1 race of the season was emphatically won by the long odds-on Dylan Thomas (C.Soumillon, A.P.O'Brien) in a style that implies he could be the big player in the big mixed age races this year. His trainer has suggested that he will be aimed at a return to Longchamp for the 'Arc' in the autumn, so he may not be too busy in the summer months.
If the 2 length winning margin over Irish Wells (D.Boeuf, F.Rohaut) does not seem too incredible, that is only because the jockey did not punish the winner at all and only had to push him out over the last 200m to easily take care of the opposition.
The ground was fast and the record for the 'Ganay' was beaten. Conditions perfect for the winner. With more give in the ground, Dylan Thomas can be opposed.
