Flat Racing 2007 Season - Europe

Newmarket, Thursday 19th April 2007

Going - Good to Firm

Craven Stakes , £28390, 1m, 3yo, Colts, Group 3

Adagio (K.McEvoy, M.Stoute) went of as 5/4 favourite after being heavily backed on-course, got slowly away, gradually regained position but got trapped in behind, got lucky with a gap on the rail then showed an impressive turn of foot to easily take the spoils.

The winner needs to start better if he is going to do anything in the 2000 Guineas.

Nothing else in the field impressed particularly.  Sonny Red (J.P.Spenser, R.Hannon) came in second and may be aimed at a listed or Group 3.

Abernant Stakes, £28000, 6f, 3yo+, listed
Asset
(R.Hughs, R.Hannon) won this in pretty much conclusive fashion, running on well after taking up the lead 1f out.  He finished 2 to 3 lengths ahead of stable-mate Assertive (D.O'Niell, R.Hannon).

The winner will progress further and looks good for more outings over this trip at group level.
