7. Extending Your Property
Creating an extension to a property is a sure-fired way of improving the overall sale value as well as creating new space. Here are a few things to look for when deciding on extending...
a. The end product must look good. Do not try a half-hearted approach that skimps on the details. Ensure the end-product looks professional and in line with the rest of the property.
b. Do not over-extend compare to the rest of the street. This means that you shouldn't try to add 50% space if the most any other house on the street has is a small conservatory.
c. Take care with the planning permission. Ensure all of the papers are completed and authorised before starting the work. Good quality Project Management is the key to success. Be organised and ensure everything is in place for a successful conclusion and on time.
d. A Conservatory extension is often the easiest and cheapest method of extending your property. These can be used as a dining area, a kitchen enlargement, an extra reception room, etc. Try to keep the look within the period of the house. Take care with the balance between garden space and the conservatory, do not lose the garden completely.
e. If you have a bungalow, then extending the attic into a bedroom and bathroom is an option. This entails an extension in the roof space that covers more surface area of the house at ceiling height. Take care with planning permission for this type of extension.
