You are in: Home --> Property --> Clutter & Storage
3. Clutter, Light and Storage
"De-clutter" is the buzz word of the moment and it deserves to be so because it is vitally important to ensure you get the best price for your real estate.
a. De-clutter all parts of the home, including the garage, washroom, toilet, attic, etc. Use the storage space that you have to stock things that will be needed in the near future, such as toys, washing, laundry, tools, cleaning products, etc. Anything else that you rarely use, like stacks of magazines, old DVDs, book stacks, etc. should be stored away in an external storage, preferably where it cannot be seen by prospective buyers.
b. External storage can be hired cheaply for limited time periods and can be cost effective to ensure a quick sale. De-cluttering provides space. The more space sensed by a prospective buyer, the better to let them appreciate exactly how much space is available.. It costs very little to de-clutter and adds value.
c. Ensure you create as much natural lighting as possible. Any areas of clutter or positioning of furniture that block light into corners or rooms should be cleared away to maximize the lightness in the home and allow people to leave with a sense of light and space. This will mean that in their minds, they will be thinking of how they can fit their belongings into all of that space.
d. Create extra storage areas where possible, without taking up too much space. Any alcoves that are not used can be converted to storage areas, cupboards, shelves, etc. The more storage space there is the better the impression to clients.
