You are in:    Home --> Property --> Cleaning

1.  Clean! Clean! Clean!

The first golden rule in maximising the selling price of your property is to present a clean environment.

Clean everything before showing off your house/apartment.  And we mean EVERYTHING!  Here is a list of places to remember to clean and scrub spotless:

a.  Behind radiators - get a long duster to clear away any dust.  Paint over any unsightly stains behind the radiators.

b.  Bathroom - scrape away any encrusted soap or calcium deposits.  Use a vinegar based product to remove calcium by soaking overnight.  Any mildew on shower curtains or in the grouting needs to be removed with bleach.  Use an old toothbrush to scrub away at blackened grouting.  Shine up the taps and shower to a bright shine.  Polish the mirrors to a high shine.

c.  If you have a garage or external store room, clean them up and make them presentable.  Clean thoroughly any internal storage areas.

d.  Scrub the kitchen spotless and shining, including the storage areas and behind the fridge.

e.  Make sure there is no dust underneath the beds or on top of cupboards.

f.  If you are not going to re-paint the walls, use a soapy sponge to wash away any marks or grease or tobacco stains.

g.  Polish the windows to glistening bright.

h.  If re-painting walls and ceilings, always choose neutral colors.  Bright garish hues will put people off and reduce the perceived selling price. Simple light beige, cream or white will provide an empty canvas that allows prospective buyers to imagine their own color schemes.
